Partnerships blossom when communities, its people, businesses and local corporations join to make a
positive impact where the people live and work in support of a sustainable future.
In a significant boost to enhance local conservation and recreation efforts, Dow has partnered with
Assumption Parish Recreation District No. 2 at Veterans Park, contributing a generous $40,000 grant
covering final details of the new Pierre Part Belle River Water Trails project providing seven trail routes.
This collaboration aims to enhance the project’s natural beauty and accessibility of the area, providing
residents and visitors alike with additional safe outdoor recreational opportunities.
Dow’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement extends from a global
level to the local Grand Bayou Operations site. “We are thrilled to support a project that not only
highlights the natural landscape but also encourages the community to engage with their environment,”
said Glynna Mayers, Public Affairs Manager of Dow Louisiana Operations.
“This partnership and Dow’s generous donation are pivotal in completing the recreation board’s vision,”
expressed Beryl Gomez, District Project Coordinator. The funds will be used to enhance Trailhead
accessibility, signage, and safety measures, ensuring a welcoming and informative experience for all
trail-goers.
Canoe/Kayak trails have been a component of the Assumption Parish Recreation District No. 2 Master
Plan and desired by the community. This vision is becoming reality due to the many partnerships,
volunteers, and funding sources that include State RTP Trails Grant, State Appropriations, LSUAg Center, Atchafalaya National Heritage Area, Keep Louisiana Beautiful, Louisiana Iris Conservation, and
Dow.
Community members and visitors will soon enjoy the enhanced access to the area’s serene waterways
and the recreational opportunities it will bring. The Pierre Part Belle River Water Trails are expected to be
a cornerstone of Veterans Park for local environmental enjoyment and a draw for eco-tourism, and
contribution to the community’s economic and cultural vitality.
